Taler Poillon, Program Coordinator- Virginia Beach

Name:  Taler Poillon

Where were you born and raised?
Born and raised in Bishop, CA

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
The biggest transition I have faced is becoming a military spouse. From deployments, moving across the country, growing a family and navigating unpredictable schedules, life often feels like an endless transition!

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
I would tell myself to “Do it now!” Don’t wait for the right time to come, go for it and be confident.

Your Personal Why?
My personal why comes from my passion to serve a bigger purpose and to live a life that I can feel proud of.

How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
My why drives my passion for THF as it allows me to do very important work for the benefit of others who have sacrificed. It is a way of giving back!

Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
I am a spouse of an active duty NSW service member and daughter in law of a retired NSW member. It is a whole new world being married to a “legacy kid.” I love hearing the previous generations’ stories and seeing their continual commitment to serving our country and the fulfillment they have from that. Also, my grandfather was an Army Ranger who was a prisoner of war during the Korean war. Thanks to him, I come from a very patriotic family who appreciates and knows first hand what sacrifices have been made for our country.

Favorite THF Value, and why?
Fierce Empathy. Everyone is fighting a battle that we cannot see. It is important to remember that and go forth with an empathetic approach to others.

Area/Industry of expertise:
My background is in elementary education. I have a Masters Degree in education and have been working in classrooms for over 10 years.
