Marc Tirres, Director of Programs- Eglin

Name:  Marc A. Tirres

Where were you born and raised?
I grew up a city boy from Southern California.

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
I grew up a city boy from Southern boy for California. When I was 8 years old, I went to stay with my aunt and uncle at their farm in Illinois over summer break for 2 months. Around their farm they had miles and miles of cornfields and one day my cousins and some other kids came over and we hiked through the fields for a few miles to go to a swimming hole. After swimming we played hide and seek and somehow as I was hiding, they set off for the house without me. As it got dark, I had to trek through the fields by myself all the while convinced something from a horror movie I had recently watched was going to pop out and get me. This was kind of the worst day in my childhood but also kind of the best because I had to forge my way on my own and I got through. I liken this to how I like to operate in life. I am very dedicated to my teammates and I put in the hard work to make them better and to get to know them. I build them up so that when they need to rely on themselves and get through whatever “corn field” they are in, they have the know-how and the strength to get through it and to persevere.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
