Lauren Sobotincic, Director of People- Fort Liberty | Fayetteville

Name:  Lauren Sobotincic

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Virginia Beach and raised in Northern Virginia.

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
The biggest transition I’ve faced was leaving the company where I started my career as a young professional and where I spent a decade working alongside incredible people with an incredible purpose. It was there that I first worked alongside special operators, contributing to a meaningful mission I believed in. After the company underwent a corporate buyout, I knew it would be difficult to replicate that unique culture and community. This experience led me to refocus on how I could continue making an impact, which ultimately led to volunteering and mentoring at risk youth and veteran communities. I discovered a renewed sense of purpose, aligning with my passion for helping others. I’m now excited to continue this meaningful work with The Honor Foundation, where I’m able to contribute to a mission and community that I’m deeply committed to.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
I would tell my younger self that, in the end, everything works out in ways better than you can imagine. Even when life presents challenges or feels like a setback, it’s often leading you toward something greater. Every seemingly negative experience has, with time, unfolded into opportunities and growth I never expected. Trust the journey, because something better is always on its way.

Your Personal Why?
At the heart of everything I do is a desire to help others. I believe in the power of kindness in a world that can often feel heavy or dark. We each have the ability to bring light and positivity, and my goal is to be a positive source for others while creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
I’m driven by the desire to help others realize their potential, and the work THF does in empowering special operators as they transition to new chapters in life resonates with that purpose. Being part of this ecosystem allows me to be a positive force by offering support, guidance, and encouragement as the fellows embark on new journeys. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to something meaningful and make a lasting impact in this community.

Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
At the very start of my career as a young professional, and working for a defense organization, I didn’t initially understand who special operators were, however, it didn’t take very long for me to get up to speed. Some of my very first mentors were special operators, these individuals helped shape not only my professional growth, but my personal growth as well. Over the last 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside special operators in various capacities throughout their military careers, during their transitions out of the military, in corporate roles, and through my volunteer work with the Honor Foundation. Joining the THF team represents a full-circle moment for me. It is an honor to give back to a community that has profoundly shaped both my personal and professional life. Supporting their career transitions on a deeper level is an opportunity I value deeply.

Favorite THF Value, and why?
I can’t choose just one! My favorite THF values are Fierce Empathy and Bold Behavior. Fierce Empathy speaks to my belief in the importance of understanding and supporting others, especially during times of challenge. It takes courage to truly connect with others on a deep level, offering support when it’s needed most. Bold Behavior, on the other hand, is about stepping up in the face of uncertainty, driving meaningful change, and taking decisive action. It requires integrity to ensure that our actions are aligned with our values, even when the path ahead is unclear. Together, these values shape my approach to life while making a positive impact, empowering others, and always doing what’s right, no matter the challenges.
