Name: Jeff Kostermans
Where were you born and raised?
What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
In 2002, when the internet bubble burst, and probably the very worst time to ever start a company, I started a marketing automation firm called LeadGenesys. Since marketing budgets were being cut and investors didn’t know what marketing automation was, everyone told me the venture would fail. But I was too passionate about the solution that LeadGenesys was tackling, so I bootstrapped the firm by selling marketing services to global companies with deep pockets while building the software with a small team. The stakes got higher when 9 months into it my wife became pregnant with twins. Eight years later, after facing MANY challenges, I was able to sell the firm to the best of multiple suiters.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
He’d be too stubborn to listen, but it would probably be don’t take no for an answer when you are passionate about something – and ruthlessly build your network.
Your Personal Why?
For me it’s all about being a provider and role model for my family, and feeling good about my contributions to others.
How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
It’s self-serving because I’m most happy when helping others.
Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
Before retiring as an Army Reserve Major, nearly all of my 16 year military career was spent in the special operations community. I’ve fostered lifelong friendships and learned so much from the best men and women on this planet.
Favorite THF Value, and why?
Focus. It’s helped me in so many ways, and I also think it’s one of the toughest values to master. Focus on solutions – not problems. Focus on the present – not the past. When you have the discipline to focus on the right things and the right people, you’ll be amazed at the opportunities that will come to you. “The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.” – Bruce Lee
