04 DOSIER:

Darren Sorenson, Impact Officer

Name:  Darren Sorenson

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Sierra Vista, AZ. My father worked for the military so as a result, I attended four high schools in four different states, but I call St. Ignace, Michigan my hometown. Over the years, I’ve lived in 17 states and 3 countries.

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
I spent over 20 years as a Division I college basketball coach before deciding to step away to support my wife, who serves in the U.S. Army. Transitioning from a coaching career to being a stay-at-home father of two girls was a change I never imagined making. It has led to new beginnings and new transitions. Each one seems to keep getting better and more challenging.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
It’s never too late to do something different. Spend each day learning something new.

Your Personal Why?
If you are in position to help, then help. We all have special and unique talents. It us up to us to use them to help others and share them with the people we meet.

How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
I am in the position to help the people that have spent their lives sacrificing and giving to others. Helping those who have spent their careers in selfless service is the most meaningful way I can live out my Why.

Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
As the spouse of someone who served in the special operations community, I’ve seen first-hand the dedication and sacrifice it takes to answer such a powerful calling. When my wife deployed multiple times and I was a stay-at-home dad, this community rallied behind me and supported me daily. They still do today.

Favorite THF Value, and why?
Exemplify Trust. Trust is the foundation of everything valuable. Great things happen when people work and live in an environment built on Trust.
