GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, overseeing and auditing monthly reports. This role also collects pertinent information for third party audits, oversees financial reporting and operations and will be the first point of contact for accounting issues.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(65%) ACCOUNTING & COMPLIANCE
Maintain an organized general ledger and chart of accounts
Manage recurring transactional tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll along with monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
Ensure prompt and accurate monthly and annual closing of books
Prepare accounting related entries to numerous registers, journals and logs
Work with departments on vendor payments and invoice coding
Follow our company’s established accounting processes
Support accounts payable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry
Perform monthly bank reconciliation of all transactions
Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions within Quickbooks
Assist Sr. Director of Operations in tracking and maintaining company insurance policies
Prepare documentation for external auditors
Collect all vendor W-9s for annual tax filings
Compile financial reports required by management and other governmental agencies
Compute and record charges, refunds, and adjustments as needed
Prepare invoices, and account statements for donor pledges
Manage all internal donation tracking including event donations
Track and record all In-Kind donations
Manage all development compliance and accounting support with Mission Edge
Assist the Sr. Director of Operations in preparing annual budgets
Provide all donor information needed for tax filings yearly to Sr. Director of Operations
Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed
Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes
Possess personal characteristics such as; positive attitude, open mindedness, willingness to learn and grow, highly motivated, determined, team player and execution specialist

(35%) BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Collect staff time-sheets and review for accuracy prior to approval and payroll allocation
Collect staff expense reports and review for accuracy prior to approval and payroll reimbursement
Maintain status of all state filings for employment taxes and sales and use taxes
Maintain status of all state filings for soliciting charitable contributions

EDUCATION:
Four-year college degree required. Emphasis in Accounting and Finance a plus.

EXPERIENCE:
Two to four years experience in accounting or related field
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as knowledge of Financial Statements with experience in Accounts Payable and Receivable
Experience with QuickBooks Online strongly preferred
Attention to detail and deadline-oriented
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills
Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, writing and presentation skills
Excel at operating in a fast paced, community environment
Experience in non-profit industry

SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Expertise in the use of multiple computer software including but not limited to: Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Products, Adobe Acrobat, and Salesforce.

Fast-paced, startup environment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity using computer keyboard. May be required to lift and transport materials up to 50 pounds in weight.

OTHER:
Weekend work and travel may be required.
