04 DOSIER:

Sam Dement, Director of Programs- JBLM

Name:  Sam Dement

Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Guam.

What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
Retiring from the military in 2019 was a big transition. I realized I didn’t have the tools to identify and pursue my post-retirement goals. Military separation is a structural change that required a dramatic shift in how I operate and think while maintaining the character attributes the military helped me develop. The Honor Foundation’s executive-style education prepares its Fellows to define their goals and create pathways that enable a successful transition from the SOF community to the private sector and institutions of higher learning.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
Time goes by real fast. Don’t waste any of it doing things you’re not passionate about.

Your Personal Why?
To add value to my community.

How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
Serving within the Special Operations community was a privilege (and completely awesome). Joining The Honor Foundation team provides me with an opportunity to add value to this community by delivering assistance as they navigate the exciting shift from military service to their next adventure.

Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
I was a Green Beret in the 1st Special Forces Group for over a decade. I respect Special Operations Forces because they consistently meet the high demands of our nation with an unmatched dedication to duty.

Favorite THF Value, and why?
Laser Focus. The relentless pursuit of your goals is essential to achieving your vision for your future.

Area/Industry of expertise:
Operations management and high-functioning team development.
