Name: Mark Better
Where were you born and raised?
Born – Boston, MA. Raised – Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
What’s a short story around the biggest transition you’ve faced in life?
During my twenties, in order to quickly achieve my career goals, I kept moving for schools and jobs to six different cities across the U.S. In each case I was starting totally from scratch…New place to live, new culture, and new friends. As independent as I was, I learned that the transition was always easier and faster if I accepted the advice of or reached out for help to someone who sincerely wanted to help me quickly succeed in my new location.
What’s the once piece of advice you’d give a younger you?
Seriously probe your gut feelings to avoid mistakes made by your rational thoughts.
Your personal Why?
I have always been driven by the strong desire to help people — Whether it was through the pursuit of a medical career early on, later focusing on designing effective training programs, and now through coaching and providing career development advice.
How does your Why drive you to be a part of the THF Ecosystem?
My Why directly aligns with THF’s Why — To serve others and ensure that THF graduates transition to continue impacting the world not only for their community’s benefit but for their own.
Military Connection or Why do you respect Special Operators?
I have always respected Special Operators for their drive and ability to identify opportunities to succeed where others only see obstacles.
Favorite THF Value, and why?
My favorite THF value is “Plan for achievement”. In my experience, what others see as good luck is actually the ability to grab at opportunities as they come up. To be able to identify a good opportunity you must have a clear plan of where you want to go and what success looks like. That allows you to clearly assess what that opportunity has to offer if you take it.
